HR Training Administrator placement – 2006 to 2007

“I didn’t know a lot about Chessington World of Adventures Resort before my placement, but I did know I wanted to work somewhere that wasn’t run of the mill. Everyone I met was really passionate about what they do and you pick up the bug very quickly. I joined a really friendly team and got involved in several aspects of HR as well as gaining an insight into the wider running of the park. My role included everything from basic admin to delivering training, as well as getting out on park, helping other departments and working with other attractions within the Group.

“One of my main projects was organising the ‘Big Day’ which focused on reinforcing excellent customer service. Guests are given stars which they then award to members of staff for great service. There was a great deal of liaison with managers beforehand about how the day would run. Then, on the day itself, we were all out on the ground, motivating cast members and keeping energy levels high.

“I really enjoyed all the responsibility and independence I had. I was a highly valued team member and got a chance to put my mark on the role and change things if I needed to.

“I didn’t only deliver training; I benefited from it too. I completed core courses in Managing Sickness & Absence, Managing Good Performance, and Interview & Selection. I also took part in cross-group meetings to share techniques and promote consistency between Group attractions. I would definitely consider returning one day to develop my career.”
